Where did my cynicism go?

I asked my wife that last night as we watched the Obama speech. I felt something I hadn’t felt for years in an American election. It bodes well for the US if he can get elected.

I felt hope.

Hermione Gramger naming a protest group?

There’s a group out there that I suspect is thinking of 1968 in terms of social change, rather than what other things happened at the Democratic National Convention. The rioting was not as bad as it seemed on TV, because some of that was set up by the cameramen.

But there is a group trying to get arrested in Denver, calling themselves Recreate68. Do they WANT to be teargassed and clubbed?

I think my title gives my opinion – only Hermione Granger would come up with a name that bad.

Idiots. What dfo you expect from them, though?

McCain misspoke (or is generally stupid – I don’t care which) when asked how many houses he owns. Obama’s people ran with it, as was the smart thing, much like McCain’s people would have, had the positions been reversed.

The idiocy came from McCain’s campaign.

Since the houses are mostly in his wife’s name, he (by not stomping on his people and saying no) decided that it was an attack on his wife, and all gloves were off.

So the McCain campaign has apparnetly started going after Obama’s wife.

It’s times like this that the Democrats need to say, “Okay, the gloves are off. We made a comment about you not connecting to the common man because you can’t remember how many houses you own. You decided that, since your wife owns them, this meant that you could attack my wife. Want it dirty? Let’s get to it, you old misogynistic bastard.”

Maybe a cage deathmatch? McCain’s old and sneaky, but Obama’s young and agile. Wonder who’d win?

An amazing Coyote story

A maginificent Coyote story, well worth reading.

I post with the Religion category tapped because Coyote has alway been one of my patrons. (Coyote, Eris, Loki) This is pure Coyote, and as with all Coyote stories, teaches a lesson.

New work week, new stuff

A little bit of everything in this one. Writing-wise, I’m putting out little bits here and there, and having fun trying to write my first contact story. Discovering the fun of passing soft sci-fi past hard sci-fi fans, who want the workings of the drive worked out, even if it’s only ever in my head. I see it more as a “it uses a bunch of power to jump this far, and even more to jump farther”, and don’t know if I need the detail that they want.

But then I remember JKR and all the mistakes she made by not planning this stuff in advance…

Art is slow, because I haven’t had the time to draw, because of the note that follows.

My legs hurt like a sonuvabitch right now, because we spent the weekend rebuilding the outside stairs to the house. One of the treads was loose and bowing up, so we decided to replace it. This led to us demolishing the entire stairway and putting up a new one, which already feels a HELL of a lot sturdier than the old one did.

All we need to do now is buy and install stair railings, because the old ones simply will not fit on the new stairs. That’ll be fun too. (For varying shades of fun, that is.)

Man, what a headache.

A thundering headache late Tuesday night that kept going into Wednesday morning (and a good chunk of the day). It got so bad that Tuesday night (and the next morning) I needed to take one of Dorothy’s Tylenol #3 to get to sleep. My left eye still feels slightly out of focus with the rest of my head.

There’s no slurring of speech and no other signs of stroke, so that’s a worry that’s gone. I am subject to migraines occasionally, so I suspect that stress and other things (like medicating myself too late) led to one of the worst I’ve ever had.

By the time Dorothy returned from work yesterday, it had receded to a normal headache – one that needed sustenance to abate.

I’m still a little off kilter, but able to think now. More than I could yesterday.

I’m drawing again

It’s been about ten years since I made any real effort to draw, and it feels good to be doing it again, even if the stuff I’m doing right now is making it obvious that I haven’t drawn in far too long.

If you want to follow what I’m doing as far as art is concerned, then go to my DeviantArt account at http://kinsfire.deviantart.com.

Just remembering to post

I want to remember to post in this every couple days, to make the posting that much more likely. My old blog, while it had some nice stuff, honestly wasn’t used as much as I wanted to.

I’m hoping to change that.

Might post one of my religious rants in a day or two. The Phelps crowd did it again, hoping to use the Greyhound beheading case as an excuse to rant.

They’re bitching about Canada and their not following the law – idiots seem to have forgotten that Canada is ANOTHER COUNTRY, and not the 51st state in the United States.

Tinfoil hat time?

I was sent an interesting link today, to a Salon article by Glenn Greenwald.

Read the article and follow the links to the continuation. It’s interesting reading, and makes one pause. Was the anthrax sent around as a reason to allow the Shrub to attack Iraq?
