Twofers

Working on two machines – one at work and one at home, and it’s going to be a while before either of them is up to snuff for me.

Work machine gave me the ol’ BSoD and then threw errors out the wazoo when it rebooted. Finally just re-Ghosted the damned thing. But now I have to get it back to where I was happy with it. Blah.

Home is just taking an old server and converting it back into a desktop machine. But one that will do graphics and text and … you get the idea.

I’m glad I enjoy this sort of thing. 🙂

Looks like the worst is over!

There will undoubtedly be some tweaking along the way, but I currently have the six major sites that were hosted on my home server up and running at Harelink. This one, the KFA, 12 Grimmauld, Fur-Haven, a friend’s mirror site, and also a business site, about which more will follw as it becomes important.

But it’s working, and that’s the important thing.

First post from the Harelink hosting

Since I can read this and so can you, this looks pretty good to me. Just a few more sites to get up and running, and we’ll be good.

ETA: I tried editing this earlier, and it didn’t take. Let’s see if it does this time. (The previous edit was being happy about being so close to the finish line.)

Moving soon (web-wise)

I’ve been running most of this stuff on my home server for a very long time. Well, I’ve apparently gotten popular enough that my traffic looks like a virus to the host company.

This has led me to decide to actually spend money to host my websites. (GASP!)

I decided to go through Harelink. I like Bill Holbrook a lot, and anything that helps him out is worth it.

By next week at this time I should be on Harelink’s servers.

Ever have a story you just can’t start?

That’s what I’m going through right now. I’ve got a book length story in mind. Got it all outlined out, but I just can’t get the damned thing started. I may have to use one of those programs that helps you design it scene by scene. Luckily, I have two of those.

One of them is called yWriter, and is up to version 5. It can be found at www.spacejock.com. One good thing about it is that the guy who wrote it is also an author, so he wrote it for people like him.

The other one is called Storybook (or to be precise StorYBook – no idea why the Y is captialized), and that can be found at http://storybook.intertec.ch/joomla/. Note that you’ll need Java installed for this one to work.

If you’re interested, give ’em both a look. I use different aspects of both of them.

Now to open them and start writing, damnit.

Well, I dodged THAT bullet

I mentioned in an earlier post that I was intending to ghost the 40G drive in my tablet to an 80G drive I have.

Whatever you do, don’t use Ghost 2003 to do that sort of thing.

No Ghosting yet, but fun is had

I’ve been working with that new tablet PC (now with 2GB memory!) and LOVING it.

A drawing that used to take me a few hours to color when using the Bamboo tablet is now taking me 30 minutes or so. I love being able to draw and know that my pen is EXACTLY where I want it to be.

While I’ve got this connected to the docking station at the mo, I don’t expect to use this as my everything portable. Geek that I am, I’ll have two portables – one for writing and one for art. (Arting? 🙂 )
